'Maang-Tika' means not for brides alone! This is an ornament which is not worn by women regularly but especially in Marraige Ceremony Bengali bride uses it.  This is a reason why most of the bridal hair styles bear centre parting. This is done in order to accommodate the maangtika. It usually consists of a string a with a centre piece attached to one end. In varied cultures, the form of the maangtika varies.
Maang Tikka can be said to be a shortened version of the shringaar patti. It comprises of a string, with a center piece attached to one end and a hook to the other.
